Yesterday we left Bardadelo set for another day walking between showers. What surprised me was the very large numbers of pilgrims who start from Sarria, 100s and 100s. School groups walking and cycling. We got a better picture of how busy it is today as we taxied to Palas de Rei. In some places there were so -many people the driver had to stop. What was good to see was the number of children collecting rubbish along the way. Yes we took a taxi! I decided yesterday that it was time for a break. A couple of the wee scrapes I got when I tripped coming out of Ponferrada became infected so an easy day was required plus I wanted to have a look around Portomarin. In many ways it's the Portomarin bridges that tell the story. The present city is a relocation of an historic city which bordered the Rive Mino. When a dam was built in the 1950s the old city was flooded and if you look carefully at the photos you can see the remains of the old city, including the Roman bridge. One story I really liked was that in 1112 a bridge was destroyed during a war between Queen Urraca and her husband. Obviously bridges weren't covered by property agreements in the 12 Century. Also interesting is the church that 1was transported brick by brick from its former position to avoid it being flooded. Today Portomarin is a busy pilgrim stop. Tonight we are in Palas de Rei. This morning I prebooked my accommodation between here and Santiago. It looks like this:

Thurs -Melide. Fri-Arzua, Sat-Salceda, Sun-O' Pedrouzo, Mon-Lavacella, Tues-San Marcos, Wed- Santiago de Compostela (Michael's 85 birthday). All the photos are from Portomarin. The bread and paper delivery photo reminded me of the days Henessey would steal the bread and meat delivered to homes in Waiouru.

What has been really wonderful is the number of donation coming in. Please keep sharing the links to #georgiascamino #iamhope #holyblisters
