A long hot day.

A long hot and dusty day. We left Vila Franca de Xirja at 8 45am and arrived in Azambuja 8 hours later. It was only 19kms, but in the heat it was hard going. After a short section along the river front in Vila we were on to country roads. Walked past some very large industrial complexes and what seems to be associated polluted stinky streams. I wonder if Portugal has a Green Party! It was a relief to arrive in Azambuja. Four years ago I did the same route in the pouring rain, I preferred the rain! Saw lots of swallows, pied stilts, shags, what looked like ravens and 1 storke on his chimney top nest. Loved the wild poppies and the interesting sculptures in Vila Franca. There was even one of the Piper family with 6 children . Jay coped the best of us, even doing some Journaling during a shade break.
