Before I get to today's story, there is something I forgot to add yesterday. Not everyone makes it to Santiago. Along the way there are memorials to people who have died on the journey. One of the most well known was the creator of the Ninja App, who died while updating his App. Whenever you come across a memorial it's very sobering and a reminder to take care. I left O'Pedrouzo around 8am. Toni it was good to chat to you. I had called Mark, but no reply so your call was very timely! Anyway, today the sun came out just as I was walking through a forest, sorry about all the tree photos, but it really was stunning. I think the photo of the "burning bush" is my favourite. Part way through the forest was a man playing a type of drum, it was quite surreal. Further on was a man doing the camino on a donkey. He was accompanied by a couple of little dogs. Once out of the forest signs of winter were everywhere with quite a heavy frost on the ground. Obviously it was time for a hot chocolate and piece of Santiago tart. When you stop you often catch up with people you met weeks ago. This time it was an Irish gentleman I last saw well over a week ago. At the next stop I caught up with Juan and his dog Cleo. Today's walk was lovely, some really quiet times, but as I get closer to Santiago the sounds of the city intrude, especially the planes departing Santiago Airport. In one area they had recently cleared eucalyptic trees. What was interesting was how the slash was all bundled up. I wondered if they sell it for firewood? If I ever do another Camino I am going to carry a little stash of cat food. The cats of the camino are very skinny and are always begging for food. There are some very well fed ones, but in the main I think the cats have to fend for themselves. Two short days ahead and then it's done! But that doesn't mean you can stop sharing the links.
