Camino Food

I have just eaten the most delicious apple tart, sorry no photos as I didn't take my phone with me. But not all camino food is tasty. We often join a "Pilgrims' Dinner". Three courses consisting of salad, or soup, or pasta followed by a main course of meat and chips. The salad is always welcome but often the meat is very tough. The other day we stopped for lunch in Sarria, I chose calamari, wrong decision. It came out in large chunks that could have resoled my shoes. Last night in Palas de Rei I had a superb spinach and mushroom pasta dish followed by apple crumble, custard and ice cream, not very Spanish but very yum. The restaurant was run by a couple from the UK (he is English and she is Irish) they could only seat 16 people at a time but there were queues of people waiting to get in. Today we are in Melide, where I had another great lunch, a tropical fruit salad. Most meals come with chunks of bread which is delivered to the cafes in large 10ltre bags. A friend has suggested I try the local octopus, it's a speciality here. Palas de Rei was a little disappointing, the town seemed very drab. We went to a special pilgrims' mass last night that was attended by people from all over the world. Within a short time of arriving in Melide we had found 3 churches all in close proximity to one another. One was formerly a convent chapel. The first one was dedicated to Santa Roque (St Rock), who was cured from the plague after his sores were licked by a dog that also took him food. It reminded me of the story about how a statue of said saint went missing from the church or school in Matata during the 1918 pandemic. The people wrote to Bishop Cleary wanting a replacement, because they believed the statue protected them from influenza. If only it was that easy to protect people from mental illnesses. Thank goodness for support groups like #iamhope please keep sharing the links to get more donations to Georgia's Camino #georgiascamino
I am having problems uploading photos, so will try doing them in two lots.
