Left Ponferrada in the dark and made our
way out of the city. The first little suburb was Compostela, that's where the mural of Santa Maria de Compostela was. Between there and the next village I did a slow motion graceful dive into the gravel. Lesson, don't raise your buff over your nose, fog up your glasses and not look where you are going. Carol, that was just before you called me. I had stopped at another church to take time to clean mysel f up. The only damage was a grazed knee and bruised ego. Anyway, a bit later on I stopped and while repairing my wound a wee tabby cat jumped on my knee and let me know that "all will be well". It was either Hildegard or the HS in disguise!1 We passed through a couple of villages and noticed how the architecture is changing. Some houses seem to have a Tudor influence. The effects of autumm are definitely showing, with lovely orange and yellow leaves. Walked past lots of grape vines growing quite low to the ground and looking neglected. In the middle of a forest there was a man giving wax seals for credentials. I got a gold one. Arrived here in Cacabelos around 1.45pm. A good 16km walk.
