
Hontanas to Castrojeriz

A beautiful walk starting in the dark at 8am we are still on the Mesata but the landscape had more variety. Some wild deer crossed my path as was leaving, a good omen for the days short 10km walk. About half way we came across the ruins of a medieval Convento San Anton, a 12th century Monastery established by the Hospitaller Brothers of San Antonio
Pilgrims passing by had to stop there, but if at might pilgrim could collect bread from a cupboard in the Monastery wall. On the outskirts of Castrojeriz we found the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria. While still used as a church there was also an exhibition of old artworks etc dating back to the 14th century. We eventually found our albergue. After yesterday's disaster with my backpack I gave in and had my pack transported
