The race is on! Not just for a bed , but for us oldies, a bottom bunk. The Camino Frances is very busy, with many albergues booked out. Each time we book we ask for a bottom bunk. There are lots of oldies doing the Camino so lower bunks are a premium. Fortunately, the host at out albergue last night called ahead and made sure we got what we needed, but it meant we had to get to Bercianos super early. It was worth it.
Had a lovely bacon and egg breakfast in Sahagun then a cold beer and chicken wings on arrival in Bercianos. Walked past fields of asparagus and maize, got passed by a convoy of very large harvesters.
Our albergue in Sans Martin last night was wonderful. It is owned and run by an Italian family. They made a real effort to get to know everyone and were super helpful. At most albergues there is a community dinner so ypu get to chat to people from all over the world. There is quite a big Aussie and South Korean presence. The photos are from today's walk through Sahagun to Bercianos.
