Andre, one of the workers from our hotel very kindly drove us to the outskirts of Coimbra so we didn't have to walk through the suburbs and industrial areas. After Santa Lucia we walked through forests, olive groves, and along very pleasant country paths. In Mala we found a wonderful cafe, quite new. It was run by a young couple who do all their own baking. The pastries were superb. Just before the cafe we stopped at a lovely, well loved little church. It is obviously used almost every day. Our next stop was on the outskirts of Mealhada at another very hospitable cafe. The owners gave us some local Chilli cheese and sausage to try. We just had to have a swing in the playground. Now we are in Serendalo, staying at the same place I did 4 years ago, Albergue Residencial Hilario. The host Dego is very welcoming and helpful. Jay and I were able to upgrade to a twin room. Tomorrow we head to Agueda. Oh...Jay heard a snake hissing and rustling in the grass!!!
